The United Nations Treaty (Chapter IV: Human Rights) is meant to expand the rights of children. This is a dangerous treaty. It does nothing to secure human rights: as it is almost impossible to control criminals and the criminally insane. It does more to put restrictions on parental rights. Don't get me wrong. I am all for protecting human rights. I am a mother and grandmother. But I am also one who believes that the rights of the parent(s) to raise his or her child are first and foremost.
This treaty, if ratified by the United States, will usurp our own Constitution. It would supercede U.S. sovereignty! This is a ploy for those who want to push International Law when interpreting our Constitution, such as we hear from Justice Anthony Kennedy. And, as far as protecting girls who Sen. Boxer feels we should do, via her quote, "...look around the world and see these girls that are having acid thrown in their faces," well, the UN agreement will not affect Islamic Sharia law. The article referenced above mentions that acid attacks on girls continue in Afghanistan, which is already party to the convention. Once again, bad people do not honor laws or treaties. I wish she would get hot for something that would protect our borders. At the very least, she should stop supporting San Francisco's policy of being a "sanctuary city".
